oneiric

Pronounced: oh-NIGH-rick, adj

Notes: Not at all what I thought it meant

Yesterday’s word

The word turbid means

  • unclear; opaque
  • dark or dense (as smog or clouds)
  • confused or muddled
First usage

Our word came into English in the mid-1600s

Background / Comments

I think I was confused (turbid) because of the somewhat similar “turgid”, which has a different meaning. Our word came from the Latin word turba (turmoil; crowd).
